Ballinhassig simply blew Ballymartle away in the second half of the Co-op Superstores Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship at Ballygarvan on Sunday.
The eagerly awaited contest certainly lived up to its billing but Ballymartle keeper Daniel O'Mahony was left frustrated by the two goals, including one directly from a Patrick Collins puck-out.
It had all seemed a far cry from the opening minute as Cillian Lordan scored a goal but Ballinhassig never panicked, despite playing against a strong wind. Ballinhassig had drawn level as quickly as the fourth minute, with two Evan Cullinane points crucial to Ballinhassig finding their feet.
Proving as deadly as ever from the placed ball Darren McCarthy was having quite the duel with Ger Collins on the scoreboard, with Ballymartle leading by 1-4 to 0-5 after 12 minutes.
Adam and Darragh O’Sullivan were welcome additions, as the Blues hit the front on 15 minutes, following a point from Adam O'Sullivan.
There was very little between the sides, as Ballymartle began to make better use of the strong breeze as Shane Cummins, Fionn Desmond and John McCarthy all had points. Ballymartle found the net, again through Lordan following a pass from Ryan Deasy on 22 minutes.

Outscoring Ballinhassig over the remainder of the half they went into the break leading by 2-11 to 0-12.
The large attendance had hardily settled down for the second period when an Adam O’Sullivan cut found its way to the Bally net on 32 minutes.
The Riverstick men had hardly time to settle when a puck-out from Collins was not dealt with by O’Mahony and the sliotar ended up in the Ballymartle net.
The goals took the wind out of Ballymartle’s sails, who could only muster 1-5 for the second half as Ballinhassig opened up with a barrage of points, with Ger Collins leading the charge.
By the time Seamus Corry goaled late on this contest had long been put to bed.
