COBH Ramblers manager Gary Hunt has stated is a man determined to do whatever it takes to rectify the inconsistent start to the season the club have had.

Last Friday night, Ramblers suffered a 4-2 loss at the hands of Wexford at St Colman’s Park, a fourth league defeat of the season overall for Cobh.

Although Jack Larkin and Jason Abbott got on the scoresheet for Ramblers during an electric start to the second half, it was not enough to deny the South East side the win, which they secured thanks to a brace each from Thomas Oluwa and Mark Hanratty.

The result means Ramblers have just won one of their nine league matches played to date.

“It was a disappointing result. We conceded goals at key times which we can’t concede and then we are playing catch up. It was too much for us in the end," said Hunt.

“Far too often we have had to come from behind in games and giving ourselves too much to do. We want to change that narrative, but tonight the ball breaks and he is allowed to turn and shoot from 25 yards. It is the same picture and we are chasing the game. All we can do is look back on it now. But lads have to take accountability for that.

Look, it is a new squad this season. As a staff we are new in the door as well.

"Everyone wants the best for Cobh Ramblers and we are trying to find that. It is going to take us a couple of games as we said at the start of the season.

“But that is not us making excuses for results, we want results to be fixed. The sooner the better that we do that as a group. But as I said we won’t stop until we find that.”

Next up for Ramblers is another home game on Friday night against Finn Harps, who Cobh defeated in their most recent meeting in Ballybofey back in March.

Looking ahead to their clash with the Donegal side, Hunt described how a big week is required on the training ground from players and staff alike, as Ramblers seek to keep right among the pack challenging for the promotion playoffs.

“We have to look at ourselves as a staff and as a group of players. We have to look at ourselves as a team this week.

WORKING HARD

“Especially at home, we cannot concede that many goals at home and expect to try and get something out of a game. We need to work hard and we need to work harder than we have worked all season this week.

“We need to work on fixing that. That has to come from us and it has to come from the players. If people don’t want to do that, they are in the wrong team.”

For the Wexford game, Ramblers turned on their new floodlights at St Colman’s Park for the first time.

Gary Hunt will hope that his Cobh side can flick a switch to spark their campaign into life as soon as possible.
