CORK senior football goalkeeper Patrick Doyle made his return from injury in Knocknagree’s win over Valley Rovers on Sunday in Division 2 of the McCarthy Insurance Group football league.
In a low-scoring game, the Duhallow club won 1-6 to 0-3, with Doyle landing a free. The goalkeeper was between the sticks for John Cleary's team this season in the league up until the point when he suffered an injury days before the third league fixture against Cavan a month ago. Chris White bagged 1-1 for John Fintan Daly’s side at the weekend, who picked up their first points of the season, as Valley Rovers suffered a first defeat.
Last year's beaten SAFC finalists Dohenys are the only team to have played three games, and they still have a 100% record in the second tier following a 2-19 to 1-14 win over Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh on Sunday. Also in that division, there were wins for Clonakilty over Clyda Rovers (match report on EchoLive website), and Fermoy beat Kiskeam 2-9 to 0-10, with Pádraig de Róiste scoring 2-3 (0-2 f) for the Avondhu side.

There were three games played in Division 3 over the weekend. Newmarket, minus star player Conor O’Keeffe, defeated Kilshannig 0-9 to 1-4. Ryan O’Keeffe came off the bench to help Newmarket make it two wins from two, while Kilshannig have a point from two encounters. Mark Driscoll’s Bishopstown edged out Mallow 3-11 to 2-12 , with both teams now sitting on two points, and Aghada had a 1-6 to 1-5 success over Rockchapel, with Diarmaid Phelan’s 23rd minute goal proving crucial, as both of those teams now have two points from the first two outings.
There was just one game played in Division 4 and it was an impressive win for intermediate A side Glanmire against premier intermediate outfit Ilen Rovers, with Glanmire winning on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-7. The Imokilly side have three points from two games, while Ilen Rovers are without any points from the same number of matches played.
In Division 5, there was just the single match down for decision, with Buttevant's eye for goal paying dividends, in the 3-7 to 0-9 win against Adrigole. Michael O'Neill, David Hanlon and Paddy Behan with the Buttevant green flags.

There were wins for Ballincollig and Newcestown over Castlehaven and Carrigaline respectively in the midweek games from the top tier. After drawing to Cill na Martra in their first game, St Finbarr’s picked up their first win after beating Éire Óg 2-10 to 2-7 on Saturday. Cill na Martra and Nemo Rangers shared the spoils, while Douglas got the better of Carbery Rangers by two points, 1-7 to 0-8.
Match reports on all of the Division 1 games from the second round of league fixtures are on the EchoLive website.
