Cork jockey Darragh O'Keeffe wins for Brendan Walsh at Thurles
Added Bonus & Darragh O'Keeffe win the Thurles Handicap Steeplechase
Doneraile jockey Darragh O'Keeffe fresh from his Grade Two victory at Navan on Sunday in the Boyne Hurdle was on the mark at Thurles this afternoon in a North Cork themed success.
Added Bonus delivered for Doneraile trainer Brendan Walsh and his Kanturk owners Derry and Una Fitzpatrick.
Added Bonus clearly loves it here at Thurles as he replicated last year's victory in the two-mile handicap chase on the card.
He'd underperformed on his last few starts over hurdles.
This didn't deter market support from 9/1 into 5/1 as he scored for Doneraile native Darragh O'Keeffe and trainer Brendan Walsh.
Darragh made his move as they swung for home.
He took over from Joke Dancer on the run to the final fence and stayed on strongly to record a six length victory from the market leader McGrath From Clune.
Added Bonus gave his trainer Brendan Walsh his very first winner in this race last year so clearly Thurles will hold a special Place in his heart.
The winner belongs to Kanturk owners Derry and Una Fitzpatrick.
The plan is to give him a break now as he runs best fresh so he might be seen against in five or six weeks.
The trainer was quick to praise Darragh O'Keeffe for a quality ride on the ten year old Jeremy gelding.
Brendan Walsh took over the licence from his father John Joe at the end of 2022.
His father enjoyed many notable days he famously won the Munster National with Pelegro in 1975 and Propunt in 1992.
Lord Singapore won the Troytown chase at Navan for the yard in 1996 partnered by David Casey.
Davids Charm was another stable star to emerge from Kilbyrne House Stables.
He landed the €100K Bar One Handicap Hurdle under Rachael Blackmore at Fairyhouse back in 2017.
