Galway 0-9 Cork 1-10 CORK made the journey to Kinvara in the Very Division2 B National League where a strong finish ensured they came away with a victory that put them top of the group.

The all-important goal came from Emily O'Donoghue five minutes from time.

In what was a low-scoring opening half, Galway aided by the very strong wind led 0-6 to 0-2 thanks in the main to the accuracy of their free-taker Niamh Spellman. Katie Donoghue and Ava Lynskey found the range from play as Galway enjoyed a lot of possession.

Cork started well with a Cliona Dooley point from play but Spellman quickly cancelled it out. Cliona O'Callaghan slotted over a Cork free on 12 minutes to level. Spellman was on target either side of Katie O'Donoghue's score from play and the Rebels worked hard and having contained Galway to just two scores from play they were in a good position at the break.

The second half was again dominated by scores from frees and despite playing with the aid of the strong elements Cork found it hard to break down the Tribe. It was point for point as Galway held their lead, with Spellman again showing her accuracy.

Grainne O'Neill and Chloe Broderick also split the posts from play as the visitors were relying on frees from O'Callaghan, Emily O'Donoghue and Laura Doyle.

With six minutes remaining two points separated the sides and battling with all their might Cork finally grabbed the game by the neck with Emily O'Donoghue hitting the game’s only goal.

It edged them into a one-point lead and boosted by this they began to turn the screw.

O'Callaghan stretched the lead to two points before an Emily O'Donoghue free and an Edel Sheehan point from play saw Cork over the line.

In the other game in the group, Tipperary had a 2-7 to 0-12 win over Clare whilst Wexford defeated Kilkenny 3-9 to 1-8
