IT was stalemate at Ringmahon Park on Sunday as Ringmahon Rangers and Strand United shared a point a piece in the CWSSL U13 Division 2 league with a scoreless draw last weekend with both teams losing ground on the leading two teams in the league.

Ringmahon pressed forward from the kick off, winning two corners in the opening four minutes and forced Strand back in their own half for some time, but the visitors were well up to the challenge and fought for every ball and cleared any incoming danger.

However, it was Ringmahon who were creating the chances with Gabbie O’Callaghan’s effort from outside the area being well held by Molly Blair in the Strand goal in the 13th minute while the keeper also did well to gather the ball ahead of Lucy O’Reilly as the home side continued to press forward.

Strand attempted to come forward themselves with Hannah O’Shea causing problems for the Ringmahon defence but couldn’t get a shot in at goal while at the other end Ringmahon’s Isobell Sherlock drove forward only to be tackled by Millie Ryan in the area at the expense of a corner.

Ringmahon almost scored from the resulting corner kick only for Kaycee Healy Brett’s effort at the side of the area hitting the side netting as the teams went in at the break scoreless.

The home side upped the pace from the restart with Isabell Sherlock’s shot being well saved by Strand keeper Mollie Blair for a corner with the resulting corner kick finding Lucy O’Reilly who ran towards goal only to hit the side netting once again.

Play went from end to end with Ringmahon’s Isabell Sherlock’s effort being well saved by Molly Blair while at the other end Strand pressed forward, winning their first corner of the game in the 44th minute which was duly cleared away.

Chances fell to Ringmahon’s Sherlock, O’Reilly and Healy Brett but the Strand defence was holding the lines well with some timely interceptions coming from Isabelle O’Mahony and Mollie Ryan, often counter attacking, winning another corner and forcing the Ringmahon keeper Ava Murphy into a save late in the second half from outside the area.

Ringmahon threw everything at the Strand goal in the closing minutes, their best chance falling to Isabell Sherlock who broke into the area only to see her effort blocked by Molly Blair at the near post as the final whistle blew for full time.

Best for Ringmahon were Gabbie O’Callaghan, Ellen Desmond, Lucy O’Reilly Kaycee Healy Brett and Isobel Sherlock while best for Strand United were Emily Fitzgibbon, Isabella O’Mahony and Millie Ryan with keeper Molly Blair having an exceptional game in between the posts.

The result meant that Ringmahon remain undefeated after three games with seven points from three games, five behind leaders Kinsale who have played a game more while Strand Utd picked up their fourth point of the season after four games, three behind their hosts.
