THE scene is set for a bumper weekend of Cork club hurling action from September 29 to October 1.

The Cork County Board will stage the semi-finals of the five tiers across three days in a variety of venues with the Senior A and Premier Senior ties down as double-headers in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

While there had been a hope that dual clubs whose football teams are in quarter-final action next weekend would get a two-week break before the hurling semis, all the games now are pencilled in.

The Premier Senior line-up is especially attractive with the last two champions Midleton and St Finbarr's colliding after Sars face Imokilly. The Magpies had a bye after finishing as top seeds.

In the PIHC, the East Cork derby between Castlelyons and Castlemartyr, two of the preseason favourites, should be a belter while Senior A, which has Bride Rovers versus Blarney and Carrigtwohill against Newcestown, could be captured by any of the final four.

Winner on the day rules will apply, a provision which saw Glen Rovers' second team knock out Kilbrittain on penalties in the Premier Junior quarter-final with saw keeper Ben Heffernan saw three penalties and then score the winner.

Blackrock and Midleton, who meet at Intermediate A level, and Erin's Own's second squads are all through to the last four as well.

The relegation finals have been completed, which saw Glen Rovers drop to Senior A, Mallow go down to Premier Intermediate, Bandon regrade to Intermediate A, Douglas' second team move to Premier Junior and Tracton return to the Junior A ranks in Carrigdhoun.

There is a football quarter-final on the cards on Sunday, October 1, when Duhallow meet the victors from Friday's Premier Senior playoff between Douglas and St Michael's.

FRIDAY, September 29, 7.30pm:

Intermediate A HC semi-finals: Midleton v Blackrock, Carrigtwohill; Aghabullogue v Mayfield, Páirc Uí Rinn.
