Mount Mercy win Schoolgirls Senior Hockey Cup
The Mount Mercy hockey team celebrate with coaches Darren Collins and Yvonne O'Byrne after they won the Munster Schoolgirls Senior Cup.

Sweet revenge for Mount Mercy College as they got the better of Crescent Comprehensive, Limerick, in the Munster Schoolgirls Hockey final today.

Last year the Cork side lost out on penalty corners (shuttles) to the same opposition, but today they made sure of the win as they came out on top 3-1.

The Cork school took the lead in the first quarter when Leah O'Shea found the back of the net, but Maeve McNamara had Crescent back on level terms before half-time.

However, Mount Mercy were determined not to come away empty-handed and Clodagh O'Connor put them back in front early in the third quarter.

They secured the win in the fourth quarter when O'Shea got her second, and their third, to see the cup make its way back to the school again.

They will now go on to represent Munster in the Kate Russell Competition in the coming weeks.

The team is coached by Darren Collins and Irish senior hockey star, Yvonne O'Byrne.

This is Darren's 20th year involved with the squad and in that time he has helped steer them to 17 finals, and this win tipped the balance in favour of wins for him, with nine wins and eight losses. A magnificent record and one that both he, and the school can be proud of.
