Féile na Samhna, a festival celebrating Irish-language culture and traditional music, will return this year to Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Araglen.

The festival aims to attract a broad spectrum of people- Irish-language enthusiasts, lovers of traditional music and singing and those interested in visual art. Entry to all events is free at the festival, which will run over three weekends in November.

Work by Pat O’Connor will be on display in the Fermoy library during the month of November, combining calligraphy with painted imagery drawing inspiration from Irish-language poetry and seanfhocail.

The exhibition will be opened officially by Professor Tríona Ní Shíocháin in the library at 4pm on Friday, November 6.

At 2.30pm the following day, there will be a walk and a talk on local heritage given by Michael Lewis.

Attendees should assembly in the square, Mitchelstown. If the weather is inclement, the talk will take place in Forrest Hall. An open singing session will be held in The Ramble Inn, Mitchelstown on later that day at 9pm.

As has been the case for a number of years now, Claisceadal na gCarad, the local Irish-language choir, will hold a concert in Fermoy library beginning at 7.30 on November 13.

Also performing will be Mitchelstown Comhaltas, Yvonne Ní Laocha and Seán Delaney.

Irish speakers will gather at the Ramble Inn, Mitchelstown, at 9pm on Friday, November 20, for an evening of socialising.

The following day, Siobhán Ní Mhuimhneacháin and Maebh Ní Dhuinnín from the Muskerry Gaeltacht will lead a workshop at Adair Hall, Fermoy at 8pm on the lúíbíní and agallaimh bheirte traditional art forms.
