Kilmichael man chosen to fill role left vacant by death of former mayor Joe Carroll

At a recent Fianna Fáil selection convention in West Cork, Kilmichael native Alan Dromey was selected to fill the Cork county council seat left vacant by the passing of former county mayor Joe Carroll.

[/url]Now based in Shannonvale near Clonakilty, Mr Dromey's official co-option to Cork County Council takes place this week.

Mr Dromey said that agriculture, fishing and tourism are huge industries in West Cork. "So, providing assistance where I can to those will be a priority for me."

40-year-old Mr Dromey, who is married to Sheila and who has two young children, added he is very aware of the challenges facing young families and workers in the current climate.

Mr Dromey said that growing up in rural West Cork alo gave him a first hand understanding of the challenges facing farming families and rural communities.

Acknowledging he has big shoes to fill in replacing Joe Carroll, Mr Dromey is determined to give the role his all and is looking forward to representing the people of West Cork.
