The public has been alerted to potential thunderstorms and some heavy rain in the coming days with the latest forecast from Met Éireann marking a departure from the dry and sunny conditions that have largely dominated for the past few weeks.
Across Munster today there will be some bright or sunny spells for a time with scattered showers.
According to the national forecaster, it will become mostly cloudy this afternoon with showers or longer spells of rain pushing up from the south.
“Some heavy and potentially thundery downpours are possible, bringing a risk of spot flooding,” Met Éireann advised.

Humid conditions are expected in the province today with highest temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees in light to moderate southeast winds.
Mixed conditions will continue overnight with lowest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees in light southerly breezes.
After a mostly cloudy and misty start to tomorrow, Tuesday, with patchy rain and drizzle in parts, sunny spells are expected to gradually develop along with scattered showers.
Some of the showers will be heavy with isolated thunderstorms again possible, Met Éireann said.
Humid conditions are expected to persist with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees in a light southwest breeze, veering moderate west to northwest in the late afternoon and evening.
The overview for the national outlook says it will be a “mixed and unsettled” week ahead, turning cooler from midweek.
Current indications suggest it will be damp or wet and “unseasonably blustery” on Wednesday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting Ulster and mainly northern parts of Connacht and Leinster, accompanied by fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds.
Brighter and drier conditions are currently anticipated further south, with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers and mostly moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.
Rain or showers will ease and becoming increasingly confined to western and northern coasts on Wednesday night, leaving variable cloud and clear spells.
