Cork City Council seeks contractors to undertake  suite of public realm works

Cork City Council is seeking a panel of contractors to undertake a suite of public realm works across the city over the next four years, with contract values ranging between €5m and €14m.

The contract covers a range of development works, with projects typically consisting of street improvements/public realm renewals, road realignments, sustainable transport projects, and other relevant construction works.

Plans for the installation and improvement of public lighting, road signals, and street furniture are also included.

Cork City Council is seeking to establish a multi-party contractor framework for the project, with eight successful applicants included in the final panel.

Tenderers admitted to the framework panel will be invited to tender for future individual projects via mini-competitions, over the lifetime of the project from 2026 to 2030.

The value of the projects is estimated to range between €5m and €14m.

Works will include paving, kerbing, tactile surfacing, traffic islands, and buildouts; road construction, realignment, and resurfacing; drainage infrastructure, including surface water pipes, channels, and gullies; ducting and chamber installation for utilities and services; utilities and watermain diversions; public lighting supply and installation; traffic signal installations, gantry poles, and substructures; street furniture and public realm enhancements; street signs, road markings, anti-skid and coloured surfacing treatments; earthworks; and full traffic management in urban environments.

While specific areas have not been highlighted for works, recently completed projects which have been used as examples for the scope of this tender include the Donnybrook Hill pedestrian enhancement scheme, the South Douglas Rd junction upgrade, the Marina promenade, and the Knockpogue Ave and Knockfree Ave travel improvement works.
