Green-fingered Cork siblings are Woodie’s winners

Cork Siblings Fiadh and Oisín Murphy have been crowned as runners-up in this year’s Woodie’s Budding Gardeners Competition.

Now in its sixth year, the competition aims to encourage children across Ireland to ‘flex their green fingers’ by taking on an exciting garden project at home or in school, learning about the importance of plants along the way.

Woodie’s garden expert and judge of the competition, Brian Burke, selected Fiadh Murphy, 6, and Oisín Murphy, 7, from Rathpeacon as runners-up for their project, ‘Bee’s Boots’.

The brother-and-sister duo took home a €500 Woodie’s gift card as a result of their second-place award.

Mr Burke said selecting a winner for this year’s competition was “one of the most challenging tasks”.

“We received submissions from all over the country, including some wonderfully inventive and eye-catching homemade pots,” said Mr Burke.

“A huge well done to everyone who entered, but congratulations to our runners-up Fiadh and Oisín from Cork.

“Your enthusiasm and creativity have been inspiring.”
