More than €562,000 in Government funding has been allocated to 345 community projects across Cork city and county under this year’s Local Enhancement Programme (LEP).

The Cork funding is part of a national allocation of €7m to 4,100 community groups.

The funding was announced by Fine Gael TD Jerry Buttimer, for Cork South Central, and minister of state for community development and charities.

Mr Buttimer made the announcement at The Rainbow Club in Mahon, which will receive €15,900.

Other Cork city recipients include the South Parish Community Centre, which has been allocated €13,000, and Bishopstown Scouts, which will get €3,000.

In Cork county, organisations funded include Tracton GAA Club, which will receive €2,600, Crosshaven RFC, which will get €1,900, and Carrigaline Tennis Club, which will receive €2,600.

Announcing the allocations, Mr Buttimer said the programme was all about supporting local groups and clubs across the country, who, he said, serve a vital role in Irish community life.

“Every day as minister of state, I have the pleasure of meeting the people and groups that benefit from grants under the LEP,” Mr Buttimer said.

“The approval of these small grants for over 4,100 projects will go a long way to support the fantastic work that is being done in communities all over Ireland.

“The funding will ensure that important work can continue to be delivered by communities on the ground and I’m delighted that every single county will benefit.”
