'A very disturbing incident': Man, 30s, arrested after attempted burglary at Cork supermarket

A man has been arrested after an attempted burglary in Carrigaline SuperValu on Saturday evening during which a staff member was reportedly assaulted.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí attended a burglary at a commercial premises at Main Street, Carrigaline, Co Cork, which occurred shortly before 8pm on 29 August.
“A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is being detained at a Garda station in the Southern region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.”
Local Fine Gael councillor Úna McCarthy said she was “aware of a serious incident at SuperValu in Carrigaline... during which a member of staff was assaulted.
“My thoughts are with the staff member involved, along with their colleagues and customers who witnessed what happened,” she said.
Ms McCarthy thanked gardaí for their quick response, and said they had confirmed to her that a person was in custody, and an investigation was ongoing.
Fianna Fáil TD for the area Seamus McGrath described the matter as “a very disturbing incident".
“My thoughts are with the staff member involved and all staff and customers present at the time,” he said, thanking the gardaí for their response.
