The completed films will receive their world premieres at a special public screening and awards ceremony in the Everyman on Sunday at 5pm.

The third Cork city 48-hour film challenge takes place this weekend, with 13 filmmaking teams from across Ireland descending on Leeside for the competition.

Running from Friday to Sunday, June 26-28, the challenge will see teams taking on the challenge of writing, shooting, and editing an original short film in just 48 hours.

The competition marks an exciting new partnership with the internationally regarded Fastnet Film Festival. The winning team will receive the opportunity to have their film selected for screening at the West Cork festival, providing a platform for emerging filmmaking talent.

Fostering collaboration

The challenge has continued to grow since its inception, attracting filmmakers from across the country and fostering collaboration between writers, directors, actors, cinematographers, and editors of all experience levels.

Jamie Hooper, founder of The People’s Picturehouse, said the Cork city 48-hour film challenge is all about creativity under pressure.

“What these teams can achieve in just two days is consistently remarkable.

"We’re particularly excited to launch our partnership with Fastnet Film Festival, which provides a fantastic opportunity for the winning filmmakers to showcase their work on a nationally recognised stage and to screen all of the finished films at the Everyman is such a treat.”

The completed films will receive their world premieres at a special public screening and awards ceremony in the Everyman on Sunday at 5pm. Attendees at the event will have the opportunity to watch all 13 films, meet the filmmakers behind them, and witness the announcement of the winners for this year.

The films will be judged by an expert panel gathered from across the film and creative industries, who will assess entries for storytelling, creativity, technical achievement, and overall impact.

  • Tickets for the screening and awards ceremony are on sale through the Everyman box office.
