Cork was among the top performers in terms of solar electricity generated in the last year, according to Solar Ireland’s newly published Scale of Solar 2026 report.
The report shows that total connected solar capacity in Ireland reached 2.7GW by the end of May 2026, an increase of almost 300% since 2023.
In the 12 months to the end of May, the equivalent of 460,000 homes were powered by Ireland’s total connected solar capacity.
Cork saw 110GWh generated by solar farms in the period, the third highest in the country behind Meath and Wexford.
Minister Darragh O’Brien, who launched the report, said: “The growth of solar energy in Ireland is one of the clearest examples of how our energy transition is moving from ambition to delivery.
“In just 12 months, Ireland added 1GW of solar capacity, helping to strengthen Ireland’s energy resilience, reduce emissions, and increase the share of domestically generated renewable electricity on our system.”
