Cork man accused of multiple burglaries remanded in custody

A district court judge has accepted jurisdiction to deal with the cases against a 59-year-old Togher man accused of burgling three shops and pub.
Judge Catherine Ryan said the court would deal with the charges against John O’Shea, of 31 Edward Walsh Rd, Togher, Cork.
Sergeant John Dineen gave defence solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher a precis of the prosecution evidence in the cases brought against Mr O’Shea.
It is alleged that a man entered O’Driscoll’s bar in Douglas, Cork, on February 19 while the bar was closed, and that he took €360 from a pint glass that was left on the top shelf behind the bar.
It is alleged he entered Teatopon, Merchants Quay Shopping Centre, on April 14 by lifting the counter and walking into a staff area, stealing cash to the value of €412.
It’s also alleged that on April 29, €2,800 was taken from a safe at the back of Art and Hobby Shop in Douglas Court Shopping Centre.
Around this time, Mr O’Shea is charged with entering a rear storage area of ItSoMe boutique in Douglas through an emergency door to a staff area and taking €800 from a bag belonging to a member of staff.
Judge Ryan remanded Mr O’Shea in custody until June 4 for him to indicate whether he is pleading guilty or not guilty to the charges.
