Horizons (formerly Cope Foundation) is inviting golf enthusiasts to join them on the green for the 30th anniversary of the organisation’s annual golf classic.

The event takes place at Monkstown Golf Club on Thursday and Friday, June 4 and 5 and will bring together businesses and community leaders for a day of golf, networking, and giving back.

Timmy Sheehan, who avails of the supports provided by Horizons, will be playing in the golf classic as well as the upcoming Special Olympics.

He said: “Being part of the Horizons Golf Classic is brilliant. It gives me the chance to play golf and represent Horizons in competitions. I train hard with my coach Michael Forde, and I really enjoy improving my game.

“It has been a big dream of mine to compete on this level. Being part of the Special Olympics means a lot to me. I really enjoy golf and it makes me feel proud to take part.”

The event will feature shotgun starts.

Teams will enjoy a two-course meal and goody bags, sponsored by Sysco. There are also prizes up for grabs for the ‘Nearest The Pin Competition’ sponsored by Clarity Locums, ‘Longest Drive Men’s Competition’ sponsored by TTM Healthcare and ‘Longest Drive Women’s Competition', sponsored by Filo Aesthetics.

Lorraine Egan, CEO of Horizons, said: “Events like the golf classic are vital to maintaining the important services we provide to so many people across Cork city and county.

“Every swing plays a role in bringing a person we support closer to living an independent life of their choosing.

"I would like to thank everyone who has supported the Horizons Golf Classic over the last 30 years and I look forward to seeing new faces as well as our regular golfers in June.”

The Horizons Golf Classic is sponsored by O’Flynn Exhams LLP Solicitors (OFX) and Sysco Ireland.

Businesses interested in registering a team or becoming a sponsor are encouraged to act quickly, as spaces are limited. The registration cost for a team of four is €1,000 and includes green fees, refreshments, a two-course meal, goodie bags and competition entry.
