“I want to give people something real and human and fun to engage with in their local community," said Mark Breen.

The inaugural Mark Breen Queer Cork Awards will take place tonight at 7pm in the Liberty Bar on South Main Street.

The event will see awards presented by judge Mark Breen across categories including Best Queer Nightclub in Cork, the Most Trans-Neutral Experience, and the Nonbinariest Toilet.

Mr Breen said: “There is very little that I can be considered to have expertise in, but being from Cork and being queer make up 99% of my personality. The other 1% is wanting attention, so getting on stage to talk about those two things seemed like a no-brainer.

“The awards started out as something to make my friends laugh, and that remains the main goal.

The Liberty Bar is the venue for the awards.

"I’ve also seen recently how much people are using AI to replace their own thought processes and creativity, and became spurred on to make this an actual event to push back against the slop,” said Mr Breen.

“I want to give people something real and human and fun to engage with in their local community.”

Tickets for the event are available for free on Eventbrite, with a limited number available at the door.

Donations can also be made to the Kindred Clinic Cork via the Sexual Health Centre’s website at: www.sexualhealthcentre.com/donate.
