Cork musician Cathal Fitz has released his latest single, 'Walk of Shame', which has already drawn significant attention since its release on Friday.
The Togher native, whose full name is Cathal Fitzpatrick, explores themes of addiction, turmoil and human connection in the track.
The self-penned song offers an insight into his self-awareness and the struggle to escape destructive cycles. It also serves as the first single from Fitz’s upcoming debut EP, marking another milestone for one of Cork’s most promising local artists.
Still early in his career, Fitz, is rapidly building a reputation both in Ireland and beyond.
The singer-songwriter, now in his mid-20s, has already performed alongside well-known Irish acts including Darren Kiely, Skinny Living, Séamus Harty, Jack L and Jerry Fish within his first year on the scene.
Addiction
‘Walk of Shame’ reflects on the repetitive nature of addiction, portraying the instability and confusion that can arise when alcohol and escapism take hold. The song highlights the painful contradiction at the centre of addiction — the awareness of one’s behaviour alongside the guilt and regret that often keep the cycle going.
Fitz, who played senior hurling for Bishopstown, said he hopes the track connects with anyone who needs to know their pain isn’t just theirs.
“It’s speculated that people caught in addiction choose to stay on that path. From my experience, they’re often painfully self-aware, remorseful, and stuck. This song is for those people — to remind them they’re not alone.
“Specialists say the opposite of addiction is connection, and I hope this track connects with anyone who needs it.”
The single was produced by Kealan Kenny and Cian Synnott, both known for work with Amble and other Irish artists, and mastered by Lismore Mastering. The result is a bittersweet pop-folk track combining atmospheric production with candid storytelling.
Honesty
Fitz first emerged on the Irish music scene last year, quickly gaining attention for a voice that blends traditional storytelling with a contemporary sound. His songwriting is rooted in honesty and emotional openness, creating songs that connect deeply with listeners.
He debuted with Firing Squad in January 2025, and has gone on to release A Promise, The Enemy Of Love, and Pushing Thirty.
He has amassed more than 100,000 Spotify streams, and received airplay and praise from stations including Today FM, Cork’s Red FM and Dublin City FM.
Among his influences are Damien Rice and Tom Waits — artists known for pairing intimate storytelling with universal themes.
His live performances have also earned praise, with audiences often describing them as heartfelt and emotionally powerful, that feel both deeply personal and widely relatable.
As his career grows, Cathal Fitz is carving out his own place in Ireland’s music landscape.
