The completed, €200,000 refurbishment of Cork’s Firkin Crane has secured the dance house “for future generations”.
The works on the 170-year-old building have been finished in time for Dance Cork Firkin Crane to launch its five-year strategy, outlining plans for artistic growth, expanded national and international partnerships, and enhanced support for artists.
The much-needed roof works will now safeguard the long-term stability and weather-proofing of the venue. However, the organisatoin is seeking engagement with sponsors and benefactors to ensure continued growth.
Executive artistic director Laurie Uprichard said the roof works are “a major achievement and a vital step in securing this building for future generations”.
“It is also symbolic — the Firkin Crane is entering a new rhythm —confident, ambitious, and artist-focused,” said Ms Uprichard.
“As a national resource for dance and a performance venue of international standard, we are committed to strengthening our support for artists and audiences alike.”
