A rape charge faced by a 28-year-old man saw him being served with a book of evidence today.

Judge Mary Dorgan addressed the young man about his behaviour in court as the matter was being processed: “This is not a laughing matter. You are in court now, behave yourself.”

Sergeant Gearóid Davis confirmed that a book of evidence had been served on the accused.

The single charge on the indictment accused him of raping a woman in a hotel room in Cork on March 10 2022.

On the application of Sgt Davis, Judge Mary Dorgan sent the case forward to the Central Criminal Court for hearing.

Shane Collins-Daly solicitor asked for legal aid to be extended to cover the appointment of a barrister and senior counsel to represent the accused at the Central Criminal Court.
