Several businesses have been evacuated in Kinsale as gardaí and emergency services work to control a suspected gas leak.

Members of An Garda Síochána and the Cork County Fire Brigade are currently at the scene of an incident involving a truck on the Glen Rd before the junction at Pearse St in Kinsale.

It is understood that the truck is emitting gas, leading to local business evacuations within the vicinity.

A local business has confirmed that operations are set to resume within the next two hours.

The Glen Rd has since been cordoned off, with members of the public advised to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told The Echo that no injuries have been reported in relation to the incident.

In a post shared on social media, a spokesperson for Kinsale Fire and Rescue said crews have both sides of the road blocked off.

Members of the public are being asked to “please stay well clear” of the area and to not “switch anything on or have cigarettes in the town”.

“It’s very dangerous at this point,” the spokesperson said.
