The Lord Mayor has appealed to Cork people to think about giving blood this Christmas.
While Christmas is a time for celebration and rest, the need for blood never stops, with hospitals requiring life-saving blood and platelets every day of the year, including over the holiday season.
Fianna Fáil councillor Fergal Dennehy, Lord Mayor of Cork, said he was calling on the people of Cork to support the Irish Blood Transfusion Service over the festive period.
“The clinic provides a vital service to the community throughout the year, and we must continue to support the incredible staff in helping our fellow citizens in their time of need,” he said. “I also want to take this opportunity to thank the clinic staff for their ongoing dedication in providing this essential service to the people of Cork, and I wish them a Happy Christmas.”
Julianne Kelly, donor services manager, said donation was a community effort built on the generosity of people.
“Together, we are saving lives,” she said.
