Suspended sentence for man caught with cannabis and cash at Douglas home

At Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Behan imposed a total sentence of one year, which she suspended.

A teenager who was caught with a €4,300 stash of cannabis for sale, together with €5,000 in cash, at his home in Douglas over four years ago, has been given a one-year suspended jail sentence.

Nikoden Jakubowska of Hollyville, Grange, Douglas, Cork, appeared at Cork Circuit Criminal Court where he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

He admitted having cannabis for sale or supply at his home on May 4 2021 and on the same date he had more than €5,000 in cash, the proceeds of criminal conduct.

Garda Kenneth Lawton brought the charges against him.

Barrister Paula McCarthy said of the accused:

“He was using a good deal of cannabis at the time. He has not come to adverse attention prior to this or since. He was 19 at the time and is 23 now.

“He was fully co-operative with the investigation. This seems to have been an aberration.”

Judge Sinead Behan imposed a total sentence of one year, which she suspended.
