Met Éireann’s status yellow rain warning has come into effect across Cork, with further unsettled weather forecast throughout next week.

The national forecaster issued a status yellow rain warning for Cork, Kerry and Waterford yesterday, which came into effect from 2pm today, and will remain in place until 9am tomorrow.

Persistent rain, which may be heavy at times, is expected over the coming hours, with Met Éireann warning of localised flooding, and difficult travelling conditions.

While conditions will become milder for a time overnight, before cooler conditions develop towards morning, low pressure will dominate during the first week of meteorological winter with sunshine and showers at first, followed by spells of rain for the latter half of the week.

Early tomorrow morning will be wet but rain will quickly clear eastwards with sunny spells following for a time.

Cloudy

Cloudy conditions will then develop by afternoon with scattered showers spreading from the west, with highest temperatures reaching between nine and 11 degrees.

It is expected to be bright and breezy across Tuesday and Wednesday, with further scattered showers and periods of drizzle and light rain in the south, south-west and east of the country.

Rain will then clear into the Irish Sea early on Thursday, becoming dry for most of the day with sunshine and isolated showers following from the West.

Met Éireann has predicted generally unsettled weather for Friday and into next weekend, with further rain and showers spreading from the Atlantic.

In addition to the status yellow rain warning, a status yellow gale warning is in place from Mizen Head to Slyne Head and Bloody Foreland.

The gale warning, which came into effect at 2pm today, will remain in place until 7pm this evening, and warns of southerly winds which will reach gale force eight at times.

Further, a small craft warning for all coasts of Ireland took effect at 11am today, and will remain in place until 3am tomorrow, warning of southerly winds, veering southwesterly, reaching force six or higher.
