€90,000 drugs case awaits plea decision by accused
The investigation of a €90,000 drugs seizure resulted in the matter being adjourned this week for the accused to consider the question of whether he would be pleading guilty or not guilty.
Judge John King directed that a precis of evidence be sent to the defence solicitor, Eddie Burke, for consideration of the possibility of a signed plea of guilty.
Robert Higgins, of 57 Lower Pouladuff Rd, Togher, Cork, is charged with possession of cocaine, having it for sale or supply, and possession of the drug for sale or supply when its street value exceeded €13,000 — which can carry a 10-year minimum sentence, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Judge John King adjourned the case against the 28-year-old until January 13 to allow time for consideration of a signed plea of guilty.
The charges brought against Mr Higgins by Detective Garda Emmet Long related to an alleged seizure of €90,000 worth of cocaine on November 3, 2024.
Sergeant John Dineen said the Director of Public Prosecution directed that the case be sent to Cork Circuit Criminal Court for trial by judge and jury, or for sentencing on a signed plea of guilty.
