Heavy showers and further spot flooding is expected as Met Éireann has issued a yellow rainfall warning for Cork.

Warning that further heavy downpours on already saturated ground could lead to surface water accumulation and spot flooding across the county.

The weather warning is expected to come into effect at 11am today and will remain in place until 11pm tonight.

The national meteorological service warns that the combination of heavy rainfall and ground conditions already saturated from recent wet weather creates an elevated risk of localised flooding. Areas particularly prone to surface water issues during heavy rain should take extra precautions.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution on all routes, particularly in low-lying areas and locations with known drainage issues. The N40 South Ring Road, M8 motorway, and other major Cork routes may experience reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions during the heaviest downpours.

Cork County Council and Cork City Council have been alerted to the warning and will monitor vulnerable locations throughout the day. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant and consider moving vehicles to higher ground where possible.

The warning expires at 23:00 tonight, though residual surface water may persist into Thursday morning in areas with poor drainage.
