Cork court: Drug user who ‘succumbed to addiction’ jailed
The court was told that when gardaí tried to speak to the man he became very agitated and aggressive.
A man who was arrested in Bandon, Co Cork, following a public disturbance had taken amphetamines earlier in the day, his solicitor said.
Sergeant Eimear O’Connell told Bandon District Court that gardaí received a call reporting a public order incident at The Orchard, Chapel St, Bandon, and arrived at the location at 5.44am.
When they got there they found Kamil Gos, aged 32, of The Orchard, Chapel St, Bandon, being restrained by his father and brother.
The court was told that when gardaí tried to speak to Gos he became very agitated and aggressive. Gos, who smelled of alcohol and was also “chewing rapidly”, then took out his mobile phone and began texting somebody.
Arrest
Gos was arrested for his own safety and the safety of others and taken to Bandon Garda Station. The court was told that Gos was out on bail for a different incident at the time of his arrest, and had breached a bail condition that he remain sober.
The court heard that Gos had nine previous convictions, the most recent of which was for possession of drugs in March 2025.
Defence solicitor, Éamonn Fleming, said Gos had “succumbed to addiction that night” and had told him that somebody had given him amphetamine earlier in the day. Mr Fleming said Gos had come before the court “as soon as possible”, pleading guilty.
The court heard that Gos worked full-time, but was in custody in relation to a separate issue and was due before the circuit court on November 11.
Judge Joanne Carroll convicted Gos of threatening and abusive behaviour and sentenced him to two months in prison, with the sentence backdated to October 15 when he went into custody.
The public intoxication charge was taken into consideration, and recognisance for appeal was fixed at €400 cash.
