A young man who is charged with handling stolen property was remanded on bail until next month on conditions that require him to stay out of Cork city centre.
Paul Hegarty, aged 21, with an address at Gurranabraher Avenue, Gurranabraher, Cork, was charged with handling stolen property — namely a key for a Kia car, and a Dunnes Stores gift card.
Judge Mary Dorgan remanded him on bail to appear again at Cork District Court on November 17.
Sergeant Aisling Murphy said that on October 12 gardaí received a call to Lehenagh Beg following report of a group of males attempting to gain access to vehicles.
Sgt Murphy said a group ran away from patrol car and in the area a stolen vehicle had lights on with the engine running.
Paul Hegarty was stopped after a short foot pursuit. It is alleged that he had €588 cash in his pocket with a key and gift card.
The stolen property charge refers only to a key and gift card. No offence is alleged in relation to the cash to which reference was made in the outline of the allegations.
