Work on new Macroom Garda Station to start soon

The Macroom Garda HQ will consist of a 4,338sq m building on a site of about 0.68 hectares.

Works on a new Garda station in Macroom are set to commence in the next few weeks, the Department of Justice has confirmed, as part of the Budget 2026 announcement.

The station will also serve as the Garda divisional headquarters for Cork county, replacing the divisional hub in Bandon.

The Macroom Garda HQ will consist of a 4,338sq m building on a site of about 0.68 hectares.

The accommodation of the main building will include a public office, staff offices, conference facilities, staff support facilities, custody areas, plant and associated ancillary spaces.

Cork North-West Fianna Fáil TD Aindrias Moynihan said the station in Macroom would be a huge boost for the area.

“I have been a longstanding advocate for this project to be commenced and delivered. This station is much needed,” Mr Moynihan said.

“The provision of this station will give the people of Cork a sense of safety.

“It will be the Garda headquarters for the county.

“It is pivotal for us to restore public confidence by increasing Garda visibility on our streets and making the public feel safe in their communities.

“We must uphold the highest standards of the law, especially in rural towns and villages.

“Crime prevention is essential and projects like this are vital to tackling crime.”
