A book of evidence was served today on a 32-year-old man charged with 10 counts of defilement of a child.

Sergeant John Kelleher confirmed that the defendant had been served with the book of evidence in the case investigated by Garda Mary Enneguess.

Judge Mary Dorgan sent the case forward from Cork District Court to the next sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court, commencing on October 28. The parties to the case cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Defence solicitor Shane Collins-Daly represented the accused who was remanded on continuing bail for the circuit court appearance.

He is required to sign on once a week at his local garda station, provide his mobile number and be available for contact by the gardaí, surrender his travel documents and not apply for other such documents and have no contact directly or indirectly with the injured party.

It is alleged that the defendant was aged 27 at the time of all defilement charges.
