More than 2,500 people came together at Munster Technological University’s (MTU) Bishopstown campus yesterday in support of Breast Cancer Ireland’s annual Very Pink Run.

The event, now a firm fixture in the fundraising calendar, has seen more than 97,000 participants across 40 countries since its inception, raising more than €7.3m for breast cancer research to date — excluding yesterday’s earnings.

This year’s event in Cork saw a number of well-known faces take part, including Dr Monica Oikeh, known for her presence on social media as the “TikTok Doctor”, and Chris Connolly, the fitness and wellness advocate from Get Better with Chris.

Participants included casual strollers, keen walkers, joggers, and seasoned runners, who undertook a 5km or 10km distance to raise money for the charity.

All proceeds from the event will go towards two targeted areas, namely continued investment into research into metastatic disease progression to the brain, and driving the progression and speed of scientific discovery from research settings into international clinical trials.

Another edition of the Very Pink Run will take place on September 14 from 12pm at Kilkenny Castle Park.
