Two men have been charged following the seizure of multiple firearms and ammunition in Cork.
The two men, aged in their 30s and 40s respectively, were arrested on Wednesday in connection with this investigation.
Gardaí from Charleville Garda Station were on routine patrol on Wednesday when they stopped a car at a service station in Charleville at approximately 11pm.
During a search of the vehicle, Gardaí found three firearms and ammunition, alongside approximately €800 worth of suspected diamorphine.
The men were subsequently arrested and taken to a Garda Station in county Cork, where they were detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
Following the seizure, a number of additional searches were executed on Thursday at domestic residences in Cork, resulting in the seizure of further ammunition.
All firearms seized from this incident will be subject to further ballistic testing and forensic analysis.
All drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has confirmed that the two men have since been charged and are due to appear in front of a special sitting of the Mallow District Court today at 3pm.
