A Cork senator has welcomed the announcement that new Local Link bus services will connect the town of Macroom with surrounding areas.
The new Macroom-to-Rylane service will operate every Tuesday. Among the stops on the route will be Coolnadane and Ballinagree.
Meanwhile, starting from today, Local Link will commence a Demand Responsive Transport service that operates from Macroom to Renaniree.
The service will be in operation every Friday and the stops will include Mons Cross and Kilnamartyra.
Speaking to The Echo, Cork North-West Fine Gael senator Eileen Lynch said the new services are very much welcomed.
THRILLED
She said: “I am particularly thrilled to see this because it is so important for our rural areas, in particular for elderly people or people who don’t have access to cars.
“It is vital that these kinds of transport services are provided.
“Whilst we continue to put a focus on public transport, which I completely agree with, services need to be available for people to use them. So services like these, I think, should be particularly welcomed.
“Rylane was serviced by a Bus Éireann service to Macroom and that ceased at the start of August. So it is great to see that there is this replacement.”
Ms Lynch added: “Only a few weeks ago, Local Link announced a route from Aghabullogue to Ballincollig.
“I am also trying to work with them in terms of getting one from Coachford to Ballincollig.”
