Plans have been lodged with Cork City Council for nearly 550 new homes in Ballincollig, with a mix of houses and apartments included in the application.

Murnane & O’Shea Limited has applied for a 10-year planning permission for a large-scale residential development (LRD) at Greenfield in the town.

The proposed development will consist of the demolition of an existing dwelling house and farmyard with associated agricultural buildings as well as the construction of a mixed-use residential development of 544 units.

It will be comprised of 232 dwelling houses, 312 apartment/duplex units, a two-storey creche facility, and a commercial/retail unit.

The proposed 232 dwelling houses will include 100 four-bed detached/semi-detached dwelling houses, 124 three-bed semi-detached/townhouse dwelling houses, and eight two-bed townhouse units.

The 312 apartment/duplex units, 80 of which are one-bed units, will be in buildings ranging in height from three to four storeys, with one of the proposed buildings incorporating a ground-floor commercial/retail unit.

Vehicular access to the proposed development will be via two entrances from Greenfields Rd (L2216), with separate pedestrian/cycle connections also provided from Greenfields Rd.

The plans also include bicycle parking and bin storage facilities, landscaping and servicing proposals, including the upgrade of public footpaths/active travel infrastructure and water service infrastructure, and two pedestrian crossings on Greenfields Rd.

A decision on the application by Cork City Council is due by September 22.
