The Rory Gallagher tribute act, the Barry McGivern Band, will be performing on August 15 at the Sea Church in Ballycotton.

The band is fronted by Barry McGivern, a self-taught guitarist from Belfast who first saw Rory Gallagher perform, with his band Taste, on television in 1969.

The Barry McGivern Band travel the country playing Gallagher’s music, and have done so for 10 years, having performed more than 300 gigs.

Looking ahead to the show on August 15, the events manager with Sea Church, Matthew Sisk, said: “We’ve had a bumper summer of gigs at Sea Church and the Barry McGivern band will really be the icing on the cake.

“It’s fantastic to welcome this incredibly talented outfit back to Sea Church for the fourth time.

“There’s already huge interest in the gig.

“Rory Gallagher means so much to the people of Cork, having spent his childhood here, so it’s always an extra-special night when his music is celebrated.”

Mr McGivern added: “Barry McGivern Band are looking forward to delivering an authentic performance of Rory’s great music in Ballycotton, where Rory composed the most beautiful A Million Miles Away.” People attending concerts at Sea Church also now have the option of using the Sea Church Express, which is a return shuttle service to Ballycotton.

The bus departs from Cobh and passes through Midleton, Cloyne, and Shanagarry.

The bus brings people to Ballycotton 90 minutes before the show starts and leaves 30 minutes after the show ends.
