A man who was jailed recently for a shoplifting spree has now been given another sentence of three months for more thefts that have come to light — mainly for stealing steaks.
Judge Mary Dorgan imposed a sentence of four months, with the last month suspended, in the case against 29-year-old Shane Justice of Churchfield Green, Churchfield, Cork, at Cork District Court on July 31.
The defendant’s latest round of offending included the following:
January 21 at TK Maxx, Cornmarket St, where he stole an €85 gear bag.
April 10 at Centra, Washington St, where he stole €48 of meat products.
April 17 at the same shop, where he stole more meat, valued at €32.
April 29 at Tesco Express, South Main St, where he stole €23 worth of meat.
May 13, at Tesco on Paul St, where he stole €35 worth of meat.
Solicitor Shane Collins Daly said the accused man was pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity.
He suffered from psychosis exacerbated by abuse of alcohol.
He was recently sentenced to a similar jail term for five offences, dating from September 2023 to December last year.
Those shoplifting offences occurred on September 11, 2023, at Penney’s on Patrick St; on May 8, 2024, at Blackpool late night pharmacy on Watercourse Rd — where two hairdryers costing a total of €190 were stolen — on June 17, 2024, at Dunnes Stores in Merchants Quay shopping centre; on August 15, 2024, at Candlemania in Merchants Quay, Cork; and on December 15, 2024, at JD Sports shop in Blackpool.
