Judge says it's 'regrettable' to see Cork teen back in court

Judge Mary Dorgan imposed a four-month prison sentence on the accused.

A District Judge has said that it was very regrettable to see a teenager who has previous convictions coming back to court again for theft and having alprazolam tablets without a prescription.

Judge Mary Dorgan imposed a four-month prison sentence on Calvin O’Connor of Gerald Griffin Street, Blackpool, Cork.

On June 15 at O’Leary’s Supervalu Tower, Blarney, County Cork, the accused stole €60 worth of spirts and beer and on June 26 at Dunnes Blackpool he stole €311 worth of property.

And in an incident dating back to September 21 2023, he was found with alprazolam tablets for his own use.

Sergeant John Kelleher said the 19-year-old had previous theft convictions.

Joseph Cuddigan, solicitor, said of the accused:

“He did show himself capable of going to treatment previously. He was doing well for a time but obviously regressed.”

Judge Dorgan said as she sentenced the teenager: “It is very regrettable to see him back before the court.”
