Judge Dorgan imposed a sentence of five months on the three thefts and failing to appear in court. A consecutive sentence of three months was imposed on him for driving without insurance.

A sentence of eight months was imposed on a 41-year-old man for repeated shoplifting offences.

Judge Mary Dorgan imposed that total sentence on Shane O’Donoghue of Leesdale, Model Farm Road, Cork, at Cork District Cour.

Sergeant John Kelleher said the accused had 62 previous convictions including eight for theft.

Frank Buttimer solicitor said in mitigation: “He did not seek bail and indicated a plea of guilty throughout. He returned home, sober and well, after his last release from custody. However, he had not properly addressed his addiction concerns. He is doing that now with Cork Alliance.

“He is working towards getting into a residential treatment facility on his release from prison.”

Then on May 22 at Aldi, Elysian, he stole €83 worth of goods.
