Cork TD says housing data shows 'more to do' but pace will increase

'The signs of this accelerated progress to deliver homes is evident here in Cork,' said TD Colm Burke.

A Cork TD has said that the Government is determined to “accelerate the pace” of housing delivery across the county as figures show that 843 new housing completions were recorded in Cork during the second quarter of this year.

Data published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) in it quarterly new dwellings completions report shows that throughout April, May and June, there were 327 new housing completions in the Cork City Council area and 516 in the Cork County Council area.

This brings the total number of new housing completions recorded across Cork during this period to 843.

This represents a 1.2% increase in new housing completions across Cork when compared to Q2, 2024, which saw 301 new housing completions in the Cork City Council area and 532 in the Cork County Council area.

The CSO data also showed that in Q2, 2025, Cork County Council was the local authority with the most single dwelling completions, totalling 152.

Fine Gael Cork North Central TD Colm Burke said that while there is still “more to do”, the increase in housing completions in Q2 of this year shows progress in housing delivery.

“The signs of this accelerated progress to deliver homes is evident here in Cork,” said Mr Burke.

“We all know supply is central to dealing with the key issues we face in housing, so the figures will come as a relief to families and individuals in Cork who will live in these homes.

“Across the country, there were 9,214 new dwelling completions in April, May, and June, a rise of 35% on the same three months of 2024.

“More than half of the completions across the country were scheme dwellings, 33% were apartments, and 17% were single dwellings, showing the wide range of new homes being built,” he added.

“Behind these figures are the people, individuals, couples, and families, who now own their own homes in Cork.

“We know there is more to do to ramp up housing delivery, and we are determined to accelerate the pace of housing delivery in Cork.

“Today’s housing completion figures demonstrate what we can see happening around us in Cork, that more houses are coming on the market.

“[We] want to make sure people can own their own home right across Cork."
