Several sunflower picking events are set to take place in East Cork between this month and next in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.

Joe’s Farm Crisps, a family run farm in Killeagh, is offering people the chance to visit their farm for a number of fundraising days, where participants can peruse scenic walking trails while picking sunflowers in aid of charity.

The fundraising events will take place on specific days throughout July and August, with information on times and dates to follow on Joe’s Farm Crisps’ social media accounts.

The schedule is updated every Monday and is subject to change due to weather.

Entrance fees are set at €30 per car, with half of this fee donated to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, a tradition which the family have kept since starting the sunflower picking in 2021.

There is no prior booking required for the sunflower picking, however, it is a cash only venue which extends to the onsite café and farm shop.

The farm is located in Killeagh, with over 100,000 sunflowers spread across five acres of land and ten varieties of sunflower.

While the farm and sunflower picking are wheelchair and buggy accessible, along grass and stone pathways, there are no dogs allowed on the farm.

Joe Burns, owner of Joe’s Farm Crisps said that the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland is a charity “close to our hearts”.

“Since starting the sunflower picking in 2021 we have been able to raise money for a number of different charities every year,” said Mr Burns.

“The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland is a cause close to our hearts here on the farm so it is great to support them.”

Sandra Burns, of Joe’s Farm Crisps said that the sunflower picking is a “fantastic family day out which includes our walking trails and some beautiful photo opportunities around the farm.”
