Cork's Micheál Martin definitively rules himself out of a bid for the presidency

Áras an Uachtaráin: Taoiseach Micheál Martin told Morning Ireland this morning that he was not interested in running for the Áras.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has definitively ruled himself out of running for the presidency.

Speaking on Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning, he said that he had been elected to serve his constituents in Cork South Central and that was what he was going to do.

The Taoiseach’s name had been consistently mentioned in recent weeks as a possible candidate for Fianna Fáil, which has yet to nominate a candidate to contest the election.

But the Cork TD has drawn a line under the suggestion today, saying he would ‘not be going to the Áras.’
