Two men to plead guilty to involvement in robbery of €3k hearing aid in Cork city, court hears

Sergeant John Dineen previously outlined the allegations in the case: “A male reported at the public office that he was tackled to the ground by two males at Bowling Green Street."

Two men charged with involvement in the robbery of a €3,000 hearing aid and €400 cash from a man in Cork city have indicated that they will both sign pleas of guilty.

Solicitor Aoife Buttimer who represented both men said at Cork District Court that they wanted to sign pleas of guilty.

Judge William Aylmer agreed to adjourn the cases to July 22 for this to be done.

It is anticipated that their cases will then be sent forward for sentencing at the October 28 sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Mark Costello, aged 40, of no fixed address and Dean McCarthy, aged 25, of Cork Simon Community are both charged with robbery arising out of the alleged incident on March 11.

Sergeant John Dineen previously outlined the allegations in the case: “A male reported at the public office that he was tackled to the ground by two males at Bowling Green Street.

“He reported that the two males took his wallet and hearing aid and that he found his wallet 200 yards from where the incident occurred.

“€400 cash was taken from the wallet. All other items were left in the wallet.

“His hearing aid was stolen – the value of it was €3,000. The injured party did not require medical attention.”
