Cork court orders Bandon man to stay out of pharmacies while on bail

A garda sergeant said there was an objection to bail being granted to the accused, at Cork District Court.

Gardaí in Bandon arrested a 51-year-old man for threatening and drunken behaviour in the West Cork town on Saturday, as well as counts of stealing property from two pharmacies.

Sergeant John Dineen said there was an objection to bail being granted to William O’Driscoll, who gave his address as Kilbeg, Bandon, at Cork District Court.

Sergeant Pat Russell, of Bandon Garda Station, gave evidence in the objection for bail, which included the garda view that while the accused’s family home is at Kilbeg, he is not living there.

After hearing evidence on the objection to bail, Judge William Aylmer said: “I am not satisfied the threshold for the objection to bail has been reached.”

He granted bail on the defendant’s own bond of €300 on condition he would attend at Bandon District Court on Friday, not commit any offences, remain free of intoxicants, reside at Kilbeg, sign on daily between 2pm and 10pm at Bandon Garda Station, and stay out of pharmacies in West Cork.

“If you need medication, you are going to have to get someone else to pick it up for you,”

Judge Aylmer said.

Sgt Russell said the accused was charged with engaging in threatening behaviour, being drunk and a danger, and thefts from two pharmacies.

The alleged thefts of property occurred at O’Sullivan’s pharmacy and Horgan’s pharmacy, both on South Main St in Bandon.
