The call came at around 12.30pm after the Crosshaven volunteer crew were contacted by the Coast Guard to attended the 28-metre racing yacht.

The Crosshaven RNLI lifeboat was tasked to the incident by the Coast Guard at lunchtime today. 

The Crosshaven RNLI lifeboat was tasked to an incident offshore at lunchtime today to come to the aid of an injured crewman aboard a yacht. 

The call came at around 12.30pm after the Crosshaven volunteer crew were contacted by the Coast Guard to attended the 28-metre racing yacht. 

Braving force five seas the crew headed to the yacht, which was making its way to Crosshaven. The lifeboat met the yacht between Roberts Head and Ringabella, and transferred crewman Kline Pennefather to the yacht.

Mr Kline assessed the casualty who had a suspected lower leg fracture, gave casualty care and made the decision to keep the injured man on the yacht where he was the most comfortable.

On arrival at Crosshaven an ambulance crew and lifeboat personnel took the casualty from the yacht before he was transferred to hospital.

The lifeboat crew tasked to the scene consisted of Ian Venner, Shane McAuliffe and Kline Pennefather.

The back-up shore crew were: Jennifer Grey, Michael Livingstone, Hugh Mockler, Peter O'Halloran, Warren Forbes and Aidan O'Connor. LA was Darryl Hughes.

"We wish the casualty well," said a spokesperson for Crosshaven RNLI. 

 The lifeboat was declared ready for service once more at 2.15pm.

"This was milestone for Shane McAuliffe as this was his first 'shout' since being passed out as crew," said the spokesperson.
