Road closures to support pavement rejuvenation will take place near Fermoy on the M8 motorway over the next three weeks, Cork County Council has advised.

The road closures began at 7.30pm last night on the northbound carriageway from Junction 17 (Watergrasshill), rejoining the motorway at Junction 15 or 14, reopening at 6am this morning. Motorists will be asked to take a diversion via the R639 Watergrasshill-Rathcormac road.

As the work being carried out is dependent on dry weather, there will be no further road closure today as showery conditions have been forecast.

However, the road will close again tomorrow at 7.30pm and reopen on Friday morning at 6am.

Next week, it is likely that there will be road closures on three nights, starting on Monday, June 30, and a further closure is possible the following week.

A spokesperson for Cork County Council apologised for the short notice for the proposed road closures and the inconvenience they may cause.

“Closures are required to facilitate pavement rejuvenation works,” the spokesperson said.

“Hopefully, all will be completed within the next two weeks, but heavily depending on dry weather."
