Crosshaven lifeboat team attended two callouts on Saturday June 21

Crosshaven lifeboat volunteers were involved in two service calls yesterday, working with the coastguard, ambulance service and rapid response teams.

RNLI crew members Lenny Fourie, Derek Moynan, Claire Morgan, Kevin McCarthy, Gary Heslin, Sandra Farrell, Shane McAuliffe, Peter O'Halloran and Hugh Mockler were involved in the rescue of a jet ski rider and an elderly man in two separate incidents.

A jet ski with one person on board suffered mechanical failure in the White Bay area. A nearby vessel alerted the coastguard to the problem and stood by the casualty vessel whilst the lifeboat was tasked, shortly before 1pm, from an afloat exercise to attend. The jet ski and owner were towed to the Royal Cork Yacht Club marina.

The second call came at 2.10pm as the crew were recovering the lifeboat to the cradle when a person on the nearby Crosshaven Boatyard marina was heard shouting for help.

The lifeboat immediately relaunched to the marina, where an elderly man had suffered injury after a fall. The crew administered casualty care whilst awaiting an ambulance.

Other agencies involved were Crosshaven Coast Guard, West Cork Rapid response and the ambulance service.
