Cost rental homes in East Cork to open to applications next month

Cork County Council has announced a Cost Rental Scheme which aims to provide affordable rented accommodation to people on middle incomes. Applications for the new two and three bed houses at The Fairways, Tir Cluain, Midleton will open at 12 noon on June 3.

Cork County Council has announced the introduction of 10 homes in Midleton under the Cost Rental Scheme for people on middle incomes.

The development, comprising a mix of two- and three-bed family homes, is located at The Fairways, Tir Cluain.

The scheme is aimed at people who do not own a home and are above the threshold for social housing, but have difficulty affording private rented accommodation.

The Cost Rental Scheme provides renters with a secure, long-term tenancy at a rent which is below the market average for the area.

The development, made up of 10 A-rated new builds, consists of one two-bedroom and nine three-bedroom properties.

Rent prices are “at least 25% below private market rents in the area”, according to Cork County Council.

Houses will be allocated on a lottery basis to applicants who have submitted all the required documents and who are deemed eligible for the scheme.

Successful renters will then enter a tenancy arrangement with Cork County Council.

The mayor of the county of Cork, councillor Joe Carroll, said that the new scheme is a step towards achieving the housing targets set out by the Government for 2025.

“Cork County Council is delighted to announce the launch of this Cost Rental Scheme in Midleton,” said Mr Carroll.

“The development at The Fairways is superbly situated in this popular residential area just a short walk from Midleton’s town centre and all its amenities.

“This new scheme demonstrates the work that Cork County Council is doing in achieving the targets set by Government.”

Applications for the scheme will be accepted from 12pm on June 3 until 12pm on June 16 via the online application portal.
